With undivided loyalty, we will protect and preserve, with honor, our ancestors and veterans in memoriam, while promoting the early American historical events that took place on these sacred grounds. Our goal is to achieve State and National Landmark Preservation Status to ensure the perpetual preservation of this historic site and the soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom.

During the spring, the cemetery is truly alive! This pink dogwood is just one of the many flowering trees we have!

Our Goals:

To restore, and perpetually preserve and maintain the historic cemetery grounds, caretaker house, and historic monuments.
To achieve State and National Historic Landmark Preservation Status.
To develop a historical Memorial Park, Museum, and Visitor Center.
To provide a hands-on American history learning experience through educational lectures, films, tours, and events.
To promote cultural awareness of Jersey City's heritage and major role in important American History.
To increase public knowledge and appreciation of the Cemetery's natural beauty and historical significance.

In Loving Memory of Eileen Markenstien

Today the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery a place of beauty and peace due to the efforts and strength of Eileen and her all-volunteer mission. We will forever appreciate and remember how she helped revive the historic cemetery. Although she is no longer with us she served as a great president and the backbone of our volunteer community.
